After 5 months of football the best two teams this year playing in Super Bowl XLVI were the New England Patriots coming off a 13-3 regular season from the AFC, and from the NFC the surprising New York Giants who finished 9-7 in the regular season, but stormed through the Playoffs. Although their regular season records were different, both teams had one big thing in common: star Quarterbacks Tom Brady from the Patriots and Eli Manning from the Giants and all-star receivers to throw the ball to. Rob Gronkowski and Wes Welker were the Patriots go to receivers. The Giants had their own stars in Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.
Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis hosted this year’s big game and the 69,000 fans in attendance and the millions watching on TV saw a great game. The Giants took the lead early in the game in a unique way: a safety! This was only the 2nd time in Super Bowl History a safety has happened. The Giants followed up with a Manning to Cruz TD pass and by the end of the first quarter the score was Giants 9 -Patriots 0.
Then the tables turned in the second quarter, when the Patriots scored a touchdown followed up by a field goal giving the Patriots the lead at Halftime: Patriots 10 - Giants 9.
After Halftime, The Patriots built their lead by early in the third quarter after a TD pass from Brady to Aaron Hernandez, but the Giants fought back but could not put together touchdown drives and settled for 2 field goals making the score Patriots 17 - Giants 15 at the end of the third quarter.
In an awesome fourth quarter, the Giants Defense held the Patriots scoreless and in a thrilling ending, soon to be named Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning led the Giants on a final drive with two minutes to go in the game and Ahmad Bradshaw scored a touchdown to put the Giants the lead with less than a minute to go in the game. The Giants Defense held once again and the final score was Giants 21, Patriots 17. The Giants were Super Bowl Champions
